Day 5 --Mile 1992 - mile 2332--Edmonton, Alberta

Emily, Mike and David with the world's largest prairie dog.

Bob's Bar in Neihart, Montana where we stopped for lunch. Gorgeous country!!

The football field in Ryegate, Montana where the bleachers might hold 40 people. We loved this little town!!

The facilities at the field, if you know what I mean. . .

Need I say more?!

Today was a hard drive from Lethbridge to Edmonton. We stopped for gas, which was bought by the liter at $1.05, had our picnic lunch in the parking lot of the gas station and headed on north. We were quite anxious to get to Edmonton, check into our hotel, and visit the largest mall in the world, I think. Mike and David have been looking forward for weeks to going to the indoor waterpark at the mall. Emily and I were simply interested in getting a pedicure. Everyone left the mall happy!!

We did find winter today which has us all in jackets. Seems that we have arrived during an unseasonable cold front. No complaints from us Texans!

For those of you who have worried all day long: Fishy is still with us!

So, tomorrow takes us to Dawson Creek which is having its Fall Fair and Exhibition. Chuck wagon races are tomorrow! So, join us again as the trek to Alaska continues.

Enjoy that cool weather. The dog days have set in here in Texas. The locusts are screaming, crickets too numerous for counting, and ninety-six forcasted for today. Wow!!! The Fair sounds like fun. Look for artsy local crafts. Maybe an idea or two for church festival. Have fun.....

Hi guys. I had to catch up on reading all the blogs from the week! I'm glad to hear that you five are still okay and have started to soak up some local life! And Emily, I believed in the jackalope for a long time too! I can't wait to hear about an Albertan fair...and rodeo too by chance?

Sruti there is a pro rodeo during the fair. Unfortunately it starts late in the day on Friday, so we will be well on our way to the next stop. So, we have to settle for pro chuckwagon races! How do you become a pro at chuckwaggoning?

Come on now. Are you sure the football field and outhouse picture is not from Arkansas? Makes one wonder....

Chuckwagon races should be fun especially if they somewhat resemble the movie Ben-Hur -- western style! Like all races, you are truly there just to see the crashes aren't you? A wagon wheel coming loose from a six-team horse chuckwagon could make for quite the scene.

BTW - I read where you should feed Fishy a thawed frozen pea, skin it, mush it up and drop it in. Yum. If Fishy eats it, don't feed him for two days as more feeding will make it worse. Crazy huh, trying to keep a little Beta alive?

How was the stay at Courtyard?

Courtyard stay was great. The hotel appears to be a redone old building in downtown Edmonton with an amazing view of the Saskatchewan River. The staff was so friendly. Valet service was very tolerant as we couldn't manage to get everything out of the cars that we needed. The cars are packed with stuff to spend one night and then lots of other stuff that you might need every now and then. Well, with the cooler weather, we needed to get into the every now and then stuff. So, we were back and forth to our cars. Beds were great and the shower was wonderful! Good night's stay!

Did you know you had two Day 4? Ya better go back and change it so ya don't get mixed up on trying to keep track of all your days on such a long trip.

mms, my favorite part of the Courtyard (other than the bedding of course) was the corner room. We enjoyed the view of the river and the city! Many thanks!
